We all know water is the healthiest beverage to drink, but a recent study found that one type of drink actually increases risk for stroke while a dessert liquid cuts risk.
In a study published in May’s issue of the Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers found that sodas are linked with a marked increase in risk for stroke, especially for women- regardless of whether or not they were diet or filled with sugar.
At the same time, coffee drinkers were found to have slightly reduced risk of stroke. Decaffeinated and caffeinated types both showed a reduced risk.
Many studies have correlated other health issues with soft drink consumption, such as blood pressure, weight gain, and sleeplessness, but this was one of the first to directly focus on stroke.
For natural way to lower blood pressure…

I have been on BP med lisinopril for two years. I recently had it increased and my BP bottomed out, I fell and broke my hand and ended up in the ER. While there they said that the increase was too much for me and that I should be checked to see if I had white collar BP becasue every time I go to the doctor my BP is high but I can come home and it is good. Long story short I changed doctors, did a 12 day BP check at home was fine but the day I went back to see her it was high. She wants me to stop lisinopril for one week and check my bp twice a day to see what happens. I am afraid to stop it even for a week now that I have been put on it because of the risk factors. But i honestly felt better before I ever started taking it. I now have a constant dizzy and off balance feeling. Other than this issue I am perfectly healthy.
Your opening statement here says it makes no difference whether people drink sodas with diet or filled with sugar. Coming from a website promoting natural products, I find it disturbing that you aren’t even making a disticntion on the poisonous nature of ALL diet drinks, made from chemicals that are pathogens or cartogens to the human system. All of them! Thus, people using ‘diet’ for consutmption they are not only poisoning their bodies but creating an autoimmune sytem to imeerge which is even worse, or as bad as causing recipients to develop cancer or other major diseases. So that doesn’t impress me. It’s like health products coming from companies supposedly wanting to make us more healthy selling SOY products which are ALL GMO’s with a healthy dose of pesticides with every pill. Monsanto has the corner of that market so you can’t buy Soy products without being poisoned with GMO’c containing Round Up. Thanks a lot but you lose some credibiility
This practically erased the old myth about coffee. I am a regular coffee drinker all my life and I really love it. I wholeheartedly agree on the bad effect of soda but never believe the old myth about coffee.
What has this got to do with drinking or not pop? Or had the writer of that comment too many of these with something stronger in it?
Most carbonated drinks are not healthy. The pH alone for one reason is very acidic. The beverage for an upset stomach is sometimes improved as when recognized that bacterial infection in the gut are not balanced and can be improved with certain soft drinks. Yes there can be that one time benefit. But for the most part, soda could be that one puff, or one occasional drink but not by the case lots please. Wrong example for healthy drinking or eating.
The article says drinking soda pop is bad…..well it’s even worse than that soda pop is not only loaded with sugar, ut in combination with the phosphoric acid it is deadly on your health in many ways and stroke risk is one of them. Drinking coffee is a good thing to do for your body, but in moderation, never more than 3 cups a day, otherwise the caffeine becomes detrimental.
Hmmmm…I will cut down on soda. But probably not stop altogether.
Would have been more interesting if reasons why were given about soda.
And particulars about the research….just saying…..
I am anti soft drinks, but I have an occastional coffee. However, only a week or so ago someone’s doc told them not to drink coffee that it raises your pressure and cholesterol. What should we believe?
I love my coffee, but now only have it at weekends.
I think there is presently a lot of confusion in the medical line on what is good and what is not. I better trust in the Lord while using my good judgement. All of us need Jesus Christ, the great healer and preserver of life.
I have read 3 reports about coffee drinks and soda drinks in this last 5 weeks. all from researchers. coffee has been shown to be of great benefit at 4 cups a day . you can have caffeine free if you wish.
The soda . for one it is the carbonation.and phosphoric acid and high sugar or artificial sweeteners. it raises blood acid and destroys calcium so the blood takes Calcium from the bones to compensate. but this calcium is in a form the body cannot use so you get a build up of calcium in LDL deposits in the blood vessels. ( The LDL cholesterol is not a problem as it is protecting an ulcer in the blood vessel wall. when the healing is finished the LDL comes away and is captured by HDL and transported to the Liver)
This Calcium in those Ldl plaques prevent it from coming away so fibrin in the blood begin to stick to it. ! you need more calcium in the form as comes from the plants. and special suppliments to dissolve the calcium in those LDL plaques. “www.advancedbionutritionals.com” ..”www.realcuresletter.com”
I read somewhere that the likes of coke and pepsi etc alter your DNA on replication…so there is a link to increased chance of cancer from these types of sodas as well Type 2 Diabetes.
Decaf is my choice for coffee….The health benefits of coffee have nothing to do with the caffeine and more to do with various compounds and anti oxidant capabilities.
My Mrs recently had a bad attack of vertigo and also reacts to the stimulation of caffeine(sensitive)…if you are prone to car sickness or sea sickness it will make you throw up as it disturbs the nervous system…It can make people very anxious and easily disturbed and stressed….so coffee doesnt suit everyone.Caffeine also stays in your system for a long time and can disrupt sleep and dont forget a lot of these sodas contain caffeine too.
Bob…Garlic raw and crushed dissolves those plaques you mention,as does cidar apple vinegar.
Milk and Dairy are also a cause of those plaques…..Its rubbish that dairy provides the calcium you need….the molecules of calcium are too big and are not absorbed by the bones….in fact they make your body acidic and your body takes calcium out of its bones to neutralize it….the calcium from milk form around the outside of joints causing bone spurs….you can get calcium from broccoli, almonds, soups from fish/animal with cidar vinegar in…leaches calcium out of the bones.Hope this helps someone.

Surely I agree with one of the person who posted a comment before that the two products, sodas and coffee are dangerous to our lives or some times that coffee is better.
Could you Doctors come together and decide one thing for our good health?
I for one I am not a good friend of sadas, but I am concern about my kids.
Please I need your help
I do not drink diet or regular sugary sodas but do drink club soda and perrier water. Is it the carbonation or the sugar/sugar substitute that is the culprit?
Another drink that should be avoided is milk containing A1 Beta Casein. Milk also causes Austioporosis, and if you are Lactose intolerant, you will be spending a lot of money on doctors.
I am 81 and do not have osteoporosis and I have had several glasses of milk each day all my life. I found out after I was 70 that I was sensitive to wheat gluten. It gave me intestinal cramps and anemia. Makes it hard to absorb nutrients. I drink tea also.
Hello,
After reading Debbie’s memorandum with regard to BP readings! You are not alone in what is sometimes also called ‘white coat’ hypertension. Every time I see a physician my BP skyrockets as if I am guilty of something I never did, and I am waiting to be punished!! LOL My Doctor says that it is important to have low pressure under trying circumstances and stress. In other words, when else does my BP spike when I encounter other situations. The answer; it doesn’t spike and my readings at home our wonderful. Your BP can become elevated for many reasons and return to normal quickly. Watch out for physicians, pharmaceuticals and insurance companies because their main goal is not to make you healthy but to keep you sick, so they can profit off of your condition. Trust your instincts, Doctors despite a popular belief do not even come close to the metaphor, “they think themselves Gods”
