Eating large quantities of the amino acid taurine – obtained mostly from poultry rich diet – may help promote heart health and shield the cardiovascular system from cholesterol-related damage. This research, conducted by NYU Langone Medical Center scientists, tested taurine levels in a group of 14,000 women.
They discovered that those with the highest levels of taurine tended to have a significantly lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Taurine’s protective effects were particularly pronounced in those with elevated cholesterol levels. In women with high cholesterol, those with high taurine levels in the blood had a 60 percent lower chance of developing cardiovascular disease.
High level of taurine also protected against high blood pressure and type two diabetes.
A natural way to get cholesterol under control before it’s too late…
Simple exercises drop blood pressure quickly and permanently…
Interesting and has to beat popping statins and blood pressure medications. Any alternative sources of taurine for those who do not eat meat?
Hi Marian…check ehow site, but it seems, apart from supplements, seafood is the only other option!
How was the reduction in risk of cardiovascular disease determined ?
Vegans and vegetarians take note! High taurine levels from meat (organic, hopefully) are protective against cardiovascular disease because meat doesn’t feed fungus – the true cause of heart disease. Inflammation in the cardiovascular system caused by smoking, omega-6 vegetable oils, sugar and other carbs, trans fats, high insulin levels, low vitamin C intake – all invite fungi to dinner. Viola! Cardiovascular disease.
Dick Cheney is a perfect example of wrong-headed medical care. After his first heart attack he was put on a low fat, high carb diet by his doctors and he went on to have four more heart attacks. A high fat (organic olive oils, coconut oils, nut oils, plus a low carb diet that doesn’t feed yeast is the way to go. See Recaging the Beast at Amazon.
Amino acids are found in Salvia Hispania (Goji berries) Same benefits?? I do eat these
so sorry this is just a sales pitch please remove me from your list thanks
what is the food that is high in taurine.
It is only poultry products contain TAURINE? how about other sources like the forms of legumes or vegetables?
How about if you suffer Gout?
That seems like a bit of a knee jerk reaction (see response above). If someone has written a book that has implications for the topic under consideration, why wouldn’t we want to hear about it? Whether we agree with them or not, most people who write about health matters are passionate about their beliefs and feel a duty to pass on their knowledge. We can then choose what we want to believe. Like all new research, that which has been reported into here needs further investigation by open minded people. Otherwise progress cannot be made.
