Sitting Is Silent Contributor to Diabetes In Women

Sitting while watching TV, working, reading or for any other reason may significantly increase risk of developing type 2 diabetes, according to new research published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

In this study, scientists looked at how long people sat and compared that to long-term risk of type 2 diabetes. They found that those that sat the longest had higher markers of diabetes-causing compounds in the body, including the pro-inflammatory C-reactive protein.

The researchers also found that chronic sitting contributed to insulin resistance –the underlying cause of type 2 diabetes.

Surprisingly, sitting around did not have the same negative effects on men.

I am convinced that all your informations are very closed to the reality and that they help us an extrem natural and healthy way in our lifes to choose.
Thank you for doing that with very good results.
All the best to you from

That’s a bit of a shocker! But, thinking about it, it does ring true. Those of us, either older and/or disabled, do tend to sit around more and we do tend to be also more liable to having diabetes 2. Ouch!

  3. Dave Sherring says:

Yes, something tells me that the major rise of sickness in our high-tech society is largely associated to sitting on our as*es and being too comfortable. I’ll bet that one of the best anti-oxidants going is moderate movement!

  4. Liz says:

Oh come on guys – there must be more to this story than that. Hypotheses, conjectures……why does it affect women more and how could it be a factor in insulin resistance?

Not good enough to just give out the bare bones.

Schoking revealation! So, what are we supposed to do; stand up/lie down while watching TV, or reading? wont that be absurd? And, why the different effects on men and women? It will be intresting to know.

  8. G. Barrett says:

Come on people use your imagination. What activity do men use more muscle power in than women?

Any sedantary lifestyle, for men or women, can have health consequences including heart problems, weight gain, diabetes etc. Just use common sense. Stay as active as you can. This article is waaaay to generalized to simply assume it effects one gender over another. Causation can be proven/disproven for many parameters in studies. Its how its ‘interpreted’ that matters. Stay active + eat whole/natural foods + happy mindset = being healthy. Hows that for a good formula :) !

  10. So are you saying you can’t sit too long to watch TV or reading, so how are you expected to do anything then? They say that relaxing is good for you, but now they’re saying the exact opposite. I think that this so-called fact is a load of baloney and we shouldn’t take any notice. We all have a lot of stress in our lives, let us have that one pleasure of relaxation, we deserve it – and it’s free too!

  11. Warren says:

This sounds like a stastical correlation rather than a causal relation. It would take years for an intensive study to rule out other factors; the article didn’t mention this happening. (It has been years since college stats but I still remember the main points.)

I would like to see the results of a more in depth study.

am really little bit confused that because one of my friends has conginantal problem from beginning. she has extra quality for all work. all the work she try to complete by sitting position. she has also Masters degree.so how could i accept the research result. though i know one or two sample is not enough for example.

i also would like to see the results of a more in depth study.
