Trans fats are regarded as one of the least healthy compounds found in food as they are thought to raise “bad” LDL cholesterol and drop “good” HDL cholesterol.
However, a new study of 61 women found that eating large quantities of the natural form of trans fat didn’t negatively impact cholesterol. Most trans fat in the diet comes from man-made hydrogenated vegetable oils.
The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, notes that naturally occurring trans fats, from eggs and poultry skin, may be benign.
Notice however that many studies have shown that women can take and even benefit from higher level of cholesterol than men.
Thats correct our grand grand mothers were using trans fat from long time and they get healthy life and strong body without any deseases. Thanks
The 5 myths about fat Jon Barron I just read. Natural trans as opposed to cis fats include CLA, conjugated linoleic acid found in grass fed cows. Looking up the CLA in eggs, I discovered even more interesting things about eggs including how to increase the CLA and other content via the hen diet. Further, in one experiment- which looks flawed- a high fat diet leads to inflammation of the hypothalamus in rats after 1-3 days. This would lead to obesity by damage to the brain region responsible for body weight and appetite. It is not any fat. It is the amount of omega 6 in the blood that matters.
I do not doubt that or question whether natural trans-fats are OK. I naively thought that ALL trans-fats were man-made until now.
Why do you continue to push the lower cholesterol is healthier myth?
Have you knowledge that contradicts research that more people die with low cholesterol than high cholesterol?
it is funny how natural is good – man-made is bad hmm…

Makes sence, that natural food is better.
excellent info , yes eggs are also high in choline brain food as well as good cholesterol regards alan.
Nothing wrong with eggs!! You can eat eggs safely, they are the building block of our health.Years ago in the media there was a scare of eating eggs that was not good for the cholesterol,so many people avoid eating them. Now people are getting to know that oxidation in the cholesterol is the danger.Monosodium Glutamate is still been used on KP dry roasted peanuts. So all those good shoppers read the labels first.
Why is this ‘new’ fat called ‘trans’? It is not a trans anything, as it is a natural fat. Trans means ‘beyond’. This kind of information is only confusing to everyone. Chicken fat is a natural food, and is used in many old time recipes, such as baking, and especially soup. Real chicken soup is a real cure for sore throats, coughs, and colds, provided the cook uses the whole chicken, and leaves the skin and fat in the soup.
what are these trans fats and saturated fats? Are they bad fats?Do they create same bad effects when it takes?Does eggs have it?I want to learn more…thanks Christian.
