Most folks with type 2 diabetes are well-aware of the health benefits they get from losing excess weight. From improved blood sugar levels to reduced heart disease risk, losing weight is one of the best ways to improve overall health.

However, a new study presented at this week’s World Congress on Insulin Resistance, Diabetes, and Cardiovascular Disease also found that losing weight significantly boosts mental well-being as well.

The study investigated weight changes in a group of 3,000 type 2 diabetics over the course of the year. They found a clear trend that losing weight –and keeping it off—made the volunteers happier and more positive than those that gained weight during the study.
