Adults with a condition known as metabolic syndrome –characterized among others by low HDL cholesterol, high LDL cholesterol and obesity—can keep heart disease at bay simply by eating more nuts, a University of Barcelona team found. In this research study, a group of patients with metabolic syndrome were asked to eat natural nuts daily.
At the end of the study the nut-eating participants significantly improved several heart disease risk factors –including cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.
Interestingly, they also found that nut consumption boosted levels of serotonin –the feel good neurotransmitter.
I'm nutty enough but I eat nuts like Brazil nuts and other nuts..
Sir/Madam:
I have just received the results of my yearly Physical and according to my Physician, everything is good except my Cholesterol levels. My HDL limit is 130 and my LDL limit is 170 for a total of 300 which is way over the recommended level.
My Physician has been trying to put me on Meds for years and I flatly refused because these Meds fixes one problem and create many more. I have started a morning regiment of Raw Quaker Oats, Oat Bran, Flax seed, Almonds, Pecans, English walnuts with Blueberries, Strawberries, blackberries thrown in and washed down with a mixture of Pure Maple syrup and skim milk. This recipe was obtained from a Christian TV program and I will continue to see if this would bring my cholesterol levels down.
Please let me have your view on this regiment. Thanks for your help!!!
Tnx helpful article
I have always liked nuts and felt they were good for me , have all nuts got the same benifits.
I would eliminate the skim milk or any milk completely. Try soy, almond or rice milk instead.
thanks,
I will take more nuts from now on.
What about Pistachio nuts?

Your LDL is below 200 Which seems to be good. Your HDL is 130 it seems to be very good . If your HDL was a lot lower ,let say 60 then I would look into trying to raise it. I woul worry more if my LDL “bad” cholestral was above 200. With your cholestral level I would not take drugs. I would rather do more exercise or find a natural solution. Herbs,Spices,Vitamens etc ., there are many that would lower cholestral.
I love taking nuts and seeds. My nutritionist advised me to ground them with seeds and take 2 tablesp daily.
