As many jaded dieters know, it’s keeping the weight off that’s the challenge. That’s why a team of scientists put together the National Weight Loss Registry –a database of successful long-term dieters. They spilled the beans this week at a meeting of the Obesity Society.

The researchers discovered that one of the most common lifestyle factors that tied together successful weight-losers was avoiding TV – those that watched 10 or fewer hours of TV were more likely to maintain weight loss over the long-haul. Also, these elite dieters weighed themselves at least once per week. Other factors associated with success were exercising at least three times weekly and avoiding processed foods.
