Doctors and patients should pay more attention to so-called “good” HDL cholesterol and less to total cholesterol figures, a large-scale study published in this week’s American College of Cardiology found.
In this study of more than 30,000 adults, it was discovered that increasing HDL levels was the most important way to reduce heart disease risk –more so than lowering total cholesterol. The researchers note that HDL helps clear out existing cholesterol build-up in the heart’s arteries, improving artery health over time. Effective ways to boost HDL cholesterol include eating fish, exercising and consuming moderate amounts of red wine.

Good morning, i’m not an expert on cholesterol, just an enthusiastic amatuer and I have been researching HDL for a while now and the medical establishment here in the UK believes that there is not really anything one can do about increasing HDL, it is the multiple of overall cholesterol to the HDL that one is stuck with. So as overall levels come down so does the HDL thereby maintaing a fixed multiple
I personally have a low LDL but also what is described as a lean HDL and in recent years I have reduced the overall by 11%, the LDL by 17% but unfortunately, the HDL by 6% so my multiple is exactly the same.
If you have any evidence that contradicts the general belief in the UK then I would be grateful for the details.

Hi, I do suffer from VERY high cholestrol, unfortunately I got it from my mother’s side of the family. Does your program also guarantee success on “family history” cholestrol. I’ve tried various diets, exercise and natural medication but don’t seem to get it lower (well only statins seem to lower the LDL.)
