Spending time with others spurns more body fat and weight loss than dieting alone, a study by Ohio State University researchers found.

In a study of overweight mice, scientists found that mice that socialized with other mice boosted levels of so-called “brown fat”—a class of fat that burns significantly more calories than typical body fat.

Socializing increases your body’s production of a substance known as Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor, which helps build new brain tissue. A side effect of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor is more calorie-torching brown fat, the researchers note.
