Pretty weird. Here’s a rotten, smelly food that’ll help cure you of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack, and dementia (and even more). Call it an all-in-one package that could lead to a healthier, more disease-free life.
A team of researchers from the University of Exeter have developed an interesting compound called ‘AP39’ that has been found to have a protective effect on mitochondria.
Let us first look at what mitochondria are. We know that energy is needed for all activities and our very existence. Mitochondria are the organelles inside our cells that are responsible for producing energy through a series of processes.
These organelles determine which cells will survive and which will die, and they play an important role in inflammation. Mitochondria power the cells in the blood vessels too.
Considering how important it is, it is not surprising that any damage to mitochondria can result in a plethora of diseases – stroke, heart disease, dementia, diabetes and arthritis. Mitochondrial damage can also speed up the aging process.
Now the cells have a way to reverse mitochondrial damage.
This is what happens: When the cells experience stress and the mitochondria get affected, the cells draw in certain enzymes that can produce hydrogen sulfide. Hydrogen sulfide helps repair damaged mitochondria and restore its vital function. In fact, the compound AP39 developed by the scientists deliver this gas to the cells to keep them alive.
What does this all have to do with rotten eggs? Well, rotten eggs are a rich source of hydrogen sulfide. In fact, the stinky intolerable smell in the rotten eggs is due to this gas!
Does this mean you should stuff up on rotten eggs to keep the mitochondria ticking? It’s not advisable at least until there is enough evidence! Until then keep yourself fit with healthy food and exercises!

so AP39 is not applicable to humans coz you can't eat rotten eggs, maybe by just smelling rotten eggs we can have AP39
Interesting article but the beginning was a total teaser (kind of funny though – you guys do this a lot and I always click out of curiosity). But please I hope nobody will start eating rotten eggs.
I don’t know about eggs but in some places in the world they actually eat foods that has been “rotten” in a specific way. Fish, shark and other things. Maybe it’s the somewhat similar process as with fermented food such as yogurt and pickles?
Interesting take- but be aware that Hydrogen Sulphide is toxic in large amounts and having it in cells is not the same thing as sniffing it! It actually occurs in drains/ships outlets and can build up naturally over time in disused vessels. I think there was a report recently on a casualty in this way which did shock me a bit as I used to notice it on my boat, fairly often.
if I have to eat rotten eggs to be healthy I will just stay sick!
There is no way I would try eating something rotten, especially eggs.. Let’s hope they will make a supplement one day to get these health benefits.
Yes, I heard that in Iceland they eat rotten fish and they love it! Well, who knows maybe it is extremely healthy, even though it sounds really gross…
That's why inhaling your own or other people's farts is healthy for you! according to recent research…another rich source of hydrogen sulfide!!
This company coninues to come out with "new incredibly farcical"remedies
Grinn so now we can conclude that by eating lost of beans and cabbage our own h2s exhaust is lowering our Bp ? Wel Lets fart away and readjust all car katalyzers
Let there be enough evidence……..then all worries gone!
How to make use of AP39 would be nice.
What about sauerkraut? I heard somewhere that some Europeans drink a cup of juice before they go for their HbA1C test. does this also apply to other conditions?
