Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the new silent killer. +30% of people have it.
But a specific food fights this… with passion.
Example from a new study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition: 22% improvements from one type.
In a recent study, researchers found that flavonoid-rich foods—such as apples, tea, red peppers, and dark chocolate — protect against nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
By analyzing data from more than 120,000 adults over a 10-year period, they uncovered some impressive results.
Takeaways:
1. Reduced NAFLD Risk: Those who consumed the most flavonoids were 19% less likely to develop NAFLD.
2. Specific Food Benefits: Regular apple eaters saw a 22% reduction in risk, while tea drinkers enjoyed a 14% lower risk of developing NAFLD.
3. Additional Protective Foods: Dark chocolate and red peppers also helped reduce the likelihood of NAFLD.
MRI scans also revealed that participants with a high flavonoid intake had less liver fat and lower inflammation markers than those who consumed less:
1. Liver Fat Reduction: Those who consumed the most flavonoid-rich foods had 5.3% less liver fat, especially from apples, tea, and dark chocolate.
2. Lower Inflammation: Tea and red peppers were linked to reduced inflammation, as indicated by lower cT1 values—a marker of liver fat.
