Simply replacing salt –scientifically known as sodium chloride—with a magnesium or potassium-rich version is enough to dramatically lower blood pressure, a team of scientists report in this week’s “Nutrition Journal.”

In this study, a group of adults with high blood pressure swapped out their table salt for a new type of salt – known as Smart Salt — rich in the blood pressure lowering-minerals magnesium and potassium.

At the end of the study, Smart Salt users consumed less sodium in their diet and lowered their blood pressure numbers at the end of the 8-week follow-up period.

The study authors note that those with high blood pressure can reap the same benefits of Smart Salt by cutting down on sodium and adding in potassium and magnesium-rich foods such as broccoli, yogurt, bananas and whole grain oatmeal in their diets.

More ways to naturally lower blood pressure…
