{"id":9102,"date":"2013-12-27T13:00:37","date_gmt":"2013-12-27T18:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/site\/?p=9102"},"modified":"2013-12-24T13:02:38","modified_gmt":"2013-12-24T18:02:38","slug":"this-common-supplement-increases-stroke-risk-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/site\/2013\/12\/27\/this-common-supplement-increases-stroke-risk-16\/","title":{"rendered":"This Common Supplement Increases Stroke Risk 16%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/fizzy_tablets.jpg\" alt=\"Fizzy Supplements\" width=\"276\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9103\" \/>Here on Blue Heron Health News, we\u2019ve written hundreds of articles on the benefits of various supplements for myriad health conditions like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and arthritis.<\/p>\n<p>But a recent study from Britain&#8217;s University of Dundee and University College reveals how one particular \u2013 but very common- supplement, has exactly the opposite effect\u2026 it makes your blood pressure skyrocket and increases the risk of stroke and heart attack.<\/p>\n<p>The really bad news is that millions of people take this particular supplement thinking it will improve their health when the opposite is true.<\/p>\n<p>Making a supplement in an effervescent form, as with a fizzy, drinkable vitamin C or other proprietary blend is proving to cause more harm than good, according to research out of London recently.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists at Britain&#8217;s University of Dundee and University College looked at study participants\u2019 blood pressure and risk of stroke, comparing those who take supplements in a dissolvable, fizzy form and those taking the same supplement in the same dose in any other way, as with a tablet or sub-lingual drop.<\/p>\n<p>What they found was that using a dissolvable effervescent, or fizzy compound, places the user at a 16% increased risk of suffering a stroke, and dramatically increases the user\u2019s blood pressure.<\/p>\n<p>This is because one of the main ingredients is sodium bicarbonate, which is what gives a product its characteristic fizz when added to water.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers note that taking the maximum allowable daily dose of the supplement can more than quadruple the recommended maximum intake for sodium.
