These help by increasing saliva flow and reducing acid attacks.<br \/>\nBut <strong>xylitol<\/strong>, a plant-derived sweetener with a unique structure, goes a step further: it appears to directly fight harmful oral bacteria.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers dug into the science, reviewing:<\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>\n&#9679;\t<strong>908<\/strong> studies on oral bacteria<\/p>\n<p>&#9679;\t<strong>879<\/strong> on plaque<\/p>\n<p>&#9679;\t<strong>658<\/strong> on cavities\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p>They selected only the highest-quality trials comparing xylitol gum with other sugar-free gums. In total, they analyzed:<\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>\n&#9679;\t<strong>16 studies<\/strong> on bacteria<\/p>\n<p>&#9679;\t<strong>10<\/strong> on plaque<\/p>\n<p>&#9679;\t<strong>5<\/strong> on cavities\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p><strong>The results were striking:<\/strong><\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>\n&#9679;\t<strong>12 of 14 studies<\/strong> showed xylitol gum significantly reduced <em>mutans streptococci<\/em> (bad bacteria) compared to sorbitol gum<\/p>\n<p>&#9679;\tSome reported up to a <strong>90% reduction<\/strong> in bacteria<\/p>\n<p>&#9679;\t<strong>7 studies<\/strong> showed <strong>5x to 10x decreases<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#9679;\tThe sweet spot: <strong>at least 5g of xylitol daily<\/strong>, chewed <strong>3+ times a day<\/strong>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p><strong>For plaque:<\/strong><\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>\n&#9679;\t<strong>6 of 10 studies<\/strong> showed xylitol gum beat sorbitol gum<\/p>\n<p>&#9679;\tOne study found <strong>29% less plaque<\/strong> with xylitol while plaque <strong>increased<\/strong> with sorbitol<\/p>\n<p>&#9679;\tOthers showed <strong>23\u201338% plaque reduction<\/strong> with consistent daily chewing\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p><strong>For cavities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>\n&#9679;\t<strong>3 of 5 studies<\/strong> favored xylitol<\/p>\n<p>&#9679;\tIn one, children chewing xylitol gum had <strong>86% fewer cavities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#9679;\tIn another, adults had <strong>31% fewer cavities<\/strong> after a year of xylitol gum use\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p>Xylitol gum isn\u2019t a substitute for brushing or flossing, but it\u2019s a powerful addition to your oral care routine.<br \/>\nAnd yes \u2014 industrial xylitol is chemically identical to the plant version.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/health\/gum-disease-sl-bhhn\/\">Fortunately, it\u2019s quite easy to heal gum disease in days using the simple, all-natural steps explained here\u2026<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sugary gum feeds bacteria that attack your teeth.
