They used immune cells to measure whether the extracts could reduce inflammation and block the enzyme xanthine oxidase—the enzyme responsible for producing uric acid in the body. Too much uric acid is what causes gout attacks.

3. Finally, they tested the most promising extract on mice with artificially induced joint inflammation to see how it worked in a living system.

The results were impressive:

1. All five fruit peel extracts helped cartilage cells grow better — even at extremely low concentrations (just 0.1 micrograms per milliliter).

2. Three extracts significantly reduced harmful molecules called reactive oxygen species that damage joints.

3. The extracts blocked the xanthine oxidase enzyme, which suggests they could help prevent uric acid buildup.

4. Inflammatory markers like nitric oxide and interleukin-6 dropped significantly when cells were treated with the peel extracts.

5. In animal tests, mice treated with the extract had less joint swelling and better cartilage repair.

6. In fact, the extract worked just as well as diclofenac — a commonly prescribed anti-inflammatory drug.

7. Scientists identified 18 beneficial compounds in the fruit peel, with two (emodin and esculetin) showing the strongest anti-inflammatory effects.

This suggests that Caryota mitis fruit peel extract could one day serve as a natural alternative to traditional gout medications.

Unfortunately, in this study, the extracts were injected directly into the joints—so it’s not a treatment you can try at home yet.

But if future research supports these findings, it might become available as a natural treatment for gout and arthritis in the future.

There are, however, simple steps you can take today to rid yourself of gout for good completely.

Thousands of readers have already used these simple diet and lifestyle changes to become gout-free…

For generations, people in Vietnam have used Caryota mitis fruit peel to treat joint pain and inflammation, but scientists had never properly tested whether it actually works.
