The drinks studied included sugar-sweetened beverages, artificially sweetened beverages, and natural juices.

Here’s what they uncovered:

1. Sugar-Sweetened Beverages: Drinking more than one serving per day increased CKD risk by 45% compared to those who abstained.

2. Artificially Sweetened Beverages: Diet drinks were even worse, increasing CKD risk by 52% for those consuming more than one daily serving.

3. Natural Juices: Moderate consumption (≤1 serving/day) lowered CKD risk by 14% compared to no juice intake. However, drinking more than one serving offered no additional benefits and could pose risks.

4. The Role of Metabolic Syndrome: Conditions like obesity, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar explained 12% of the risk from sugary drinks and 18% from diet drinks. These drinks likely worsen metabolic syndrome, indirectly harming the kidneys.

So both sugar-sweetened and artificially sweetened beverages are linked to a significant increase in CKD risk.

In fact, diet drinks are worse than sugary drinks and should be avoided at all costs.

This is yet another proof that lifestyle factors cause CKD and that the right diets and lifestyle changes can correct it.

In fact, hundreds of readers have reversed their CKD using the simple diet and lifestyle changes explained here…

Drinking normal sodas has long been linked to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
