Everyone can do this themselves.

If this is true, it will change everything for MS treatment.

MS occurs when the immune system attacks the protective layer around nerve cells. Researchers wondered if the gut could hold the secret to calming this immune overreaction.

They tested the “gut-friendly diet” on mice with a condition mimicking MS, called experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis.

The results were revolutionary: Mice on the gut-friendly diet experienced significantly less severe disease than those on a normal diet.

The researchers dug deeper and discovered why the diet works so well:

• Beta-Hydroxybutyrate (BHB): The gut-friendly diet increases this metabolite, which is created when the body burns fat. Giving mice BHB alone also reduced disease severity.

• Inflammation Fighters: BHB-promoted gut bacteria that produce indole-3-lactate (ILA), an anti-inflammatory compound. Mice given ILA or treated with these bacteria had less severe disease and lived longer.

• A Human Connection: Studies show that people with MS often have lower levels of ILA, suggesting the findings apply to humans.

This study is the first to link diet, gut bacteria, and MS relief directly.

But, the researchers are not the first to use a gut-friendly diet to treat MS.
