And we all do it from time to time.<\/p>\n<p>It involves eating a common type of food: UPF<\/p>\n<p>And according to a new study in The Lancet Regional Health \u2013 Europe, it spikes your risk of Type 2 Diabetes by almost 300%.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers studied the diets of 311,000 people across 8 European countries.<\/p>\n<p>Foods were categorized by processing level (NOVA classification).<\/p>\n<p>Participants were followed for an average of 11 years.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The takeaway:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. 10% increase in <em>ultra<\/em>-processed food (UPF) intake raised diabetes risk by 17%.<\/p>\n<p>2. Replacing 10% of UPF with <em>minimally<\/em>-processed foods lowered risk by 18%.<\/p>\n<p>3. Replacing 10% of UPF with <em>medium<\/em>-processed foods reduced risk by 14%.<\/p>\n<p>4. Riskiest UPFs and their risk increases:<\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>\n   &#45; Savory snacks: 296% higher risk<\/p>\n<p>   &#45; Animal-based products: 250% higher risk<\/p>\n<p>   &#45; Ready-to-eat\/heat mixed dishes: 16% higher risk<\/p>\n<p>   &#45; Sweetened beverages: 25% higher risk<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p>5. Some UPFs (like cereals, sweets, plant-based alternatives) surprisingly reduced risk.<\/p>\n<p>The study suggests reducing UPF intake, especially the riskiest types, and favoring less processed foods to help prevent type 2 diabetes.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/health\/beat-diabetes-vsl\/\">If you already suffer type 2 diabetes, cutting UPF is not going to cut it.
