The study surveyed 495 adults to see how much they knew about hemorrhoids and what kept them from seeking treatment.<\/p>\n

1. Low Knowledge Levels: Most people didn\u2019t fully grasp what hemorrhoids are or what causes them. While about half correctly identified hemorrhoids as swollen veins in the anal canal. 60% mistakenly believed that simply sitting on the toilet too long was the main cause.<\/p>\n

2. Education and Knowledge: Education level made a significant difference. Among university graduates, 40% had a solid understanding of hemorrhoids. Only 10% of participants with lower education levels were knowledgeable about the condition.<\/p>\n

3. Embarrassment as a Barrier: The #1 reason people didn\u2019t seek help? Embarrassment. About 67% of participants felt too self-conscious to visit a doctor. For many, discomfort around anal examinations (56%) also kept them from getting checked.<\/p>\n

4. Not Taken Seriously: 32% of participants didn\u2019t think hemorrhoids were a serious enough issue to warrant a visit to the doctor. Surprisingly, only 20% turned to natural remedies\u2014most simply ignored the condition.<\/p>\n

When people did seek medical help, 78% said it was pain that pushed them. 43% sought help due to general discomfort. And 41% because they noticed blood in their stool.<\/p>\n

Delaying treatment until hemorrhoids are extremely painful or cause bleeding can make them harder to treat and may lead to severe complications down the line.<\/p>\n
