But exercise has never been proved to reverse the brain damage behind the disease.<\/p>\n<p>This innovative research involved a small group of 10 patients with mild and early-stage Parkinson&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>The study used two main types of brain scans. The first was an MRI scan focusing on neuromelanin, a dark pigment found in dopamine-producing neurons in the substantia nigra, a brain region severely impacted by Parkinson&#8217;s. The second was a PET scan that measured the availability of the dopamine transporter, a protein crucial for maintaining proper dopamine levels.<\/p>\n<p>The participants then embarked on a high-intensity exercise program designed specifically for Parkinson&#8217;s patients. It involved mostly elements of high-intensity interval training. They continued this program for six months.<\/p>\n<p>The exercise program was conducted online, with real-time monitoring of heart rates and activity levels to ensure the intensity remained high.<\/p>\n<p>After six months of this program, follow-up brain scans revealed remarkable findings.<\/p>\n<p>There was a major increase in both neuromelanin and dopamine transporter in the substantia nigra. Patients usually suffer decreases in these as Parkinson&#8217;s progresses.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that this study found an increase in the health and functionality of dopamine-producing neurons means that high-intensity exercise didn&#8217;t just stop the decline, but also restored or improved the health of these critical neurons.<\/p>\n<p>High-intensity exercise is, as the name says, highly vigorous. Think sprint running, sprint cycling, and rope jumping. Do a quick (30 seconds or one minute) high intensity phase followed by a few minutes lower-intensity intervals and repeat a few times per workout.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/health\/my-parkinsons-bhhn\/\">This is just more clear proof that Parkinson\u2019s disease is treatable.
