{"id":26201,"date":"2022-10-27T13:30:22","date_gmt":"2022-10-27T17:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/site\/?p=26201"},"modified":"2022-10-11T02:34:30","modified_gmt":"2022-10-11T06:34:30","slug":"snoring-causes-this-deadly-disease-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/site\/2022\/10\/27\/snoring-causes-this-deadly-disease-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Snoring Causes This Deadly Disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Cancer-460570711.jpg\" alt=\"Snoring Causes This Deadly Disease\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9399\" \/>Snoring (and especially sleep apnea) is not just an innocent annoyance.<\/p>\n<p>When you snore, you don\u2019t breathe properly, and your blood oxygen level goes down.<\/p>\n<p>And according to a new study published in the <em>European Respiratory Journal<\/em>, this can cause the one disease most of us dread the most.<\/p>\n<p>The authors obtained their data from the European Sleep Apnea Database, which records the medical records of people who have visited any of 33 medical centers across Europe.<\/p>\n<p>They identified 20,000 adults who had been diagnosed with sleep apnea and ranked them from the least to the most severe cases.<\/p>\n<p>After analyzing the patients\u2019 complete medical records, they found that two percent of their subjects had also had a cancer diagnosis at some time in their lives.<\/p>\n<p>It turned out that sleep apnea severity could predict the prevalence of cancer, especially in women.<\/p>\n<p>Women with the most severe sleep apnea were much more likely to have a cancer diagnosis than women with mild sleep apnea.<\/p>\n<p>This relationship between sleep apnea and cancer was also present in men but was much weaker.<\/p>\n<p>What is at the root of this relationship?<\/p>\n<p>One likely explanation is that cancer cells don\u2019t function well in an oxygen-rich environment.
