{"id":19978,"date":"2019-04-03T13:30:02","date_gmt":"2019-04-03T17:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/site\/?p=19978"},"modified":"2019-03-29T06:17:18","modified_gmt":"2019-03-29T10:17:18","slug":"cheap-tea-treats-arthritis-new-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/site\/2019\/04\/03\/cheap-tea-treats-arthritis-new-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Cheap Tea Treats Arthritis (New study)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Green_Tea_44631625_s-2019.jpg\" alt=\"Cheap Tea Treats Arthritis (New study)\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9399\" \/>Various studies have found that this tea can lower bad cholesterol, reduce your risk of heart disease, and improve diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>And now, according to a new study published in the journal <em>Arthritis and Rheumatology<\/em>, it is also an amazing remedy for arthritis.<\/p>\n<p>Best of all, it\u2019s dirt cheap and can be found everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>A research team led by an academic at Washington State University College of Pharmacy in Spokane discovered this amazing arthritis remedy in the form of epigallocatechin-3-gallate, or EGCG.<\/p>\n<p>This is a polyphenol that is abundant in green tea.<\/p>\n<p>They divided rats with rheumatoid arthritis in their ankles into two groups, one that received EGCG, and another received a placebo.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that the swelling improved in the joints of the rats that were fed with EGCG did not really come as a surprise, as researchers have previously found that this substance has anti-inflammatory effects that worked against arthritis.<\/p>\n<p>But how does this work?<\/p>\n<p>You see, EGCG inhibits the activity of TAK1, a protein that pro-inflammatory cytokines use to transmit their signals to trigger the inflammation and tissue breakdown that can be found to occur in rheumatoid arthritis.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, your cup of green tea stops TAK1 from transmitting the messages that cause inflammation and swelling.<\/p>\n<p>Will this work for people with osteoarthritis too?<\/p>\n<p>Probably! In a 2002 study published in <em>Free Radical Biology and Medicine<\/em>, scientists found that green tea also slows down the destruction of cartilage in patients with osteoarthritis.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blueheronhealthnews.com\/health\/?page_id=603\">But green tea alone may not be enough to completely destroy arthritis.
