This Delicious Dairy Treat Treats High Blood PressureIt makes a great breakfast, serial topping, brunch snack, and dessert.

Now it turns out that it can also tackle high blood pressure.

Justin Buendia, a PhD candidate at Boston University School of Medicine, presented a study at the American Heart Association’s Epidemiology/Lifestyle 2016 Scientific Sessions that concluded that some people could cut the risk of developing high blood pressure by up to 31 percent when they eat five servings of yogurt a week.

For the study, he and his team analyzed already available data from three large studies with far over 100,000 subjects tracked over to 30 years. From this massive pile of data, they concluded the following:

People between the ages of 25 and 75 who ate five or more servings of yogurt per week had a 31 percent lower chance of developing high blood pressure than those who ate only one serving per week.

The catch?

Only people who add yogurt to an already healthy diet can cut their risk by 31 percent. Enjoying a cup of yogurt for breakfast while having takeaway burgers with fries and cola for supper will obviously be of limited use.

They defined a healthy diet as one with lots of fruit, vegetables, nuts, beans, whole grains, and low-fat animal products.
