These 2 Oils Beat Blood Pressure MedicationsNow if your doctor is pushing you to take blood pressure medications, you have a simple, natural, healthy option.

This option recently was proven more effective than leading blood pressure medications to lower high blood pressure and improve cholesterol level.

It all lies in a blend of two common oils you probably already have in your kitchen.

If you have been raised to think of dietary oil as a fattening risk factor for cardiovascular disease, you are about to learn something that will lead to a big attitude change.

Indian researchers presented a research paper at the American Heart Association’s High Blood Pressure Research 2012 Scientific Sessions that argued that sesame oil and rice bran oil had powerful blood pressure reduction properties.

Their subjects were 300 adults with moderately high to high blood pressure with an average age of 57 years.

They divided these subjects into three groups. One received only nifedipine, a calcium-channel blocker. Another received an ounce of a 20 percent sesame/80 percent rice bran oil blend with their food every day. The third received both.

These are the findings:

1. Those who took only the medication experienced a 16 point drop in systolic pressure, and 12 point drop in diastolic pressure, and an unchanged cholesterol level.

2. Those who took only the oil blend experienced a 14 point drop in systolic pressure, and 11 point drop in diastolic pressure, and 26 percent drop in bad cholesterol, and a 9.5 percent rise in good cholesterol level.

3. Those who took both the medication and the oil blend experienced a 36 point drop in systolic pressure, a 24 point drop in diastolic pressure, a 27 percent drop in bad cholesterol, and a 10.9 percent rise in good cholesterol.

So you see, taking the oil alone delivered pretty much the same drop in blood pressure as using blood pressure medications – but without suffering the side effects. Plus, people also gained great benefits in improved cholesterol level.

We can also argue that the oils probably lowered the blood pressure in a much more natural way, delivering more health benefits versus drugs that just force your blood pressure down.

The authors attributed the effect to these oils’ healthy fatty acids and their antioxidants like sesamin, sesamol, sesamolin, and oryzanol.

Experts have long known that rice bran oil could lower cholesterol. The same Indian authors reached this conclusion in 2012 when they compared it with olive oil, which had no effect, and articles published in various journals in 1993, 1998, and 2005 argued the same.

Rice bran oil has previously been found to lower the blood pressure of rats, so this study has advanced the debate by showing that it has the same effect on people, too.

Manufacturers of kitchen equipment have quickly jumped on these results to sell rice bran oil makers, but the truth is that the studies use an 80 percent physically refined high oryzanol rice bran oil, which cannot be made from normal rice bran.

A few food manufacturers have started selling special high oryzanol rice bran oil, which is your best option. Ask your local health food staff about this type of oil.

It is crucial that you buy oils that are either unrefined or refined through a process that involves no hydrogenation, however. Hydrogenated cooking oil is one of the leading causes of high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Unrefined oils are normally called virgin or extra-virgin oil.

When oils are used above their ideal temperature, they smoke, burn, and give off chemicals that may bring about cancer over time. To avoid this, use sesame oils only in cold salads or add it to sauces once they have already cooked and cooled down a bit. Rice bran oil has a high smoking point of 232°C or 450°F, and is therefore appropriate for oven roasting and deep frying.
