One popular grain has once again been tested in a new study and came out in flying colors.
Over 73% of those who consumed this powerful grain were able to drastically cut down or most often eliminate their blood pressure medications.
What’s more, their cholesterol and blood sugar level was seriously improved.
This cereal grain is so popular that you may already have the habit of eating it for breakfast! Yes, we are talking about oats, one of the friendliest cereals in the world and with so many benefits.
Around 88 people took part in a study. They were divided into two groups – one group was given a daily serving of wholegrain oats-based cereal while the other group consumed a refine wheat grain-based cereal.
The results were really amazing! 73 percent of the participants, who ate wholegrain oats, stopped or reduced blood pressure medications to half, during the course of the study! Compare this to only 43 percent from the wheat cereal group.
Even those who consumed oats but could not reduce medications still saw a reduction in blood pressure. Plus, the participants showed an average 15 percent reduction in cholesterol levels and improvement of blood glucose levels.
Another research revealed 8 mm Hg reduction in systolic pressure and 5.5 mm Hg reduction in diastolic pressure from consuming whole-wheat oats regularly.
The take-home message is this: if you’re not already consuming oats, make it a habit now! And make sure you choose whole grain or steel cut oats instead of processed or instant varieties.
I have oatmeal every single morning in the winter time. Think it’s what keeps me healthy.
Doesn’t it make you wonder that the raise in all these chronic diseases happened as people moved away from old traditional breakfast to sugary cereal and god knows what.
