Could it be so simple that one common vegetable could really significantly lower blood pressure in just 24 hours?
What new vegetable discovery could be responsible and why have you not heard of it? You have. In fact, this vegetable has been around likely as long as there have been people.
Beetroot juice. It’s been touted lately as a “super” food and practically a cure-all vegetable; however, it’s not just “lately” that this vegetable has been around.
It’s been documented that beetroot juice was used in Roman times to treat everything from fever to acne and was also used as an aphrodisiac.
While I wouldn’t discount these properties based on all of my research into beetroot juice benefits, my focus is on its effect on blood pressure.
For some time we’ve known that this juice may lower blood pressure, but in a 2010 British study researchers discovered that nitrate is the ingredient in the juice responsible for lowering blood pressure.
In this study, participants were divided into 3 groups and given beetroot juice, nitrate pills and a placebo, respectively.
Those on the juice and nitrate pills had a significant blood pressure reduction within less than 24 hours, compared to the placebo group.
Given that many with high blood pressure can end up on multiple medications, beetroot juice is a great option. Just be aware that beetroot juice on its own can have a burning effect on the throat. If you want to avoid that, mix it with a carrot/apple juice combination.
Unfortunately, researchers have also advised that beetroot juice is a “love it” or “hate it” type of drink. Some people just can’t drink it, no matter how healthy it may be.
Even simpler and more effective are our easy blood pressure exercises. They’re guaranteed to drop your blood pressure below 120/80 in less than a week. Sometimes even the very first day.
Plus they leave no bad taste in the throat 😉
I didn’t used to like beets but then I heard about the great health benefits and decided to try them again. Gagged when I first tried beet juice. So that was out. Instead I make all kind of beet dishes such as beet soup and beet salads and steamed beets and so far.
LOEVE it and my blood pressure has definitely gone down!
If beet juice is too strong tasting for you, add some ginger, celery or/and carrots juice. All are great for high blood pressure. And make sure everything is fresh.
How much beet juice do you have to consume daily and eating the beets in a salad would that be just as effective?
Thank you.
I will definitely try this out, plus I love beets.
ewww hate beets, don't think i can join you bestie
Bette – Studies have shown that 250 ml of beet juice almost immediately lowered blood pressure 10 points.
You’d have to eat a lot of beets to get the same effects. But if you do little bit of this and little bit of that, it adds up to a big change.
Cam’t [i;; i[[ artoc;e. I only find coments on beets. Advertisement states veg. So there is no way to pull this up.
I will try beets, I have high blood pressure
I like beetroot juice and do need something to help lower the blood pressure… but… there might be a warning that when you drink it, the next time you use the bathroom, it may all come out very red! If I had not had experience with this when I was very young and helping my mom can beets and eating a bunch before they got canned, I would have FREAKED out!!!!! I have not noticed the blood pressure lowering effects…. unfortunately.
Please what is beat fruit or vegetable? How is it like?
Can it be found in this part of the world (Nigeria)
Beets are very common all over the world. The beetroot (the healthiest part of the plant) is red color. Little bit like red turnip. I’m sure you can find it in Nigeria. Here is wikapedia’s article about beets:
