Aerobics spinning woman exercise workout at gymIf you’ve been wanting to lower blood pressure and/or cholesterol, improve type 2 diabetes, or lose weight, you’ve been told to exercise.

But I’m sure you’ve also been the victim of the “I don’t have enough time to exercise,” excuse. New research, however, is emerging, though, that puts the “no time” argument to rest for good.

You can tackle all the above diseases and get fit in less than 3 minutes a day. And no, this is not some magical infomercial tool. You can do this exercise on a regular stationary bikes or without any tools at all.

We’ve written before about the merits of what is being called “HIT,” or High Intensity Training.

But a medical journalist in the UK has put the trend to the test recently, finding that this particular method of exercising doesn’t have to be brutal.

What he wanted to know was if the traditionally held model of HIT, which is several minutes of low to moderate intensity exercise peppered with bursts of high intensity exercise, for a total of 20 minutes per day, could be scaled back and still be effective.

What he found, and what was echoed in a study in the Journal of Physiology, was that a less intense and less risky version of HIT can be done, which is especially helpful for people whose doctors have concerns about doing too much too soon.

The scaled-back and less brutal version of working out involved stationary bikes, and the daily exercise went something like this:

–          Cycle gently for 2 minutes as a warm-up

–          At the end of 2 minutes, cycle as quickly and as intensely as you can for 20 seconds

–          Repeat the gentle/intense a total of 3 times

Doing this three times a week has been shown to be greatly effective in helping participants to get stronger, increase performance, and shed unwanted pounds- in less than 3 minutes a day (on the average).

The most impressive results from this simple exercise has been recorded 25% improvement in insulin sensitivity – the main issue for both improving type 2 diabetes and losing weight.

Another extremely simple way to lose weight is to load your body with oxygen. Again, you do not need any specific tools to do this – just simple, effortless exercises.
