A recent report presented by Taiwanese researchers at the American Heart Association’s annual meeting reveals a truly disturbing fact about a common sleeping aid.
It boosts the chances of cardiovascular disease, heart attack and stroke. And if that wasn’t enough, an unrelated, earlier study linked it to an uptick in cancer-related deaths.
The study conducted at the China Medical University in Taiwan, shows that a commonly used sleeping drug called Ambien (generic name Zoldipen ) is directly linked to massive increases in heart-related problems.
In fact researchers discovered that 60 pills taken per year spikes the risk of myocardial infarction ( heart attack) a whopping 50 percent.
Another study, presented at the same American Heart Association event in Dallas revealed that the Ambien also raises the risk of aortic dissection. A life-threatening condition where the aorta tears, causing internal bleeding.
Other studies conducted in a past revealed that Ambien stays in the system much longer than was generally thought.
If you suffer insomnia there is no need to put yourself at such great risk to get a good night’s sleep.
There are many natural, drug free alternatives available. Sleep disorders are often stress-related. A light walk after dinner, a warm bath and your favorite book might help you relax and fall asleep easier.
too bad how did FDA approved this medicine for insomnia before they found it is bad for our heart.how many had already taken this medicine
Well Zoldipen has numerous related issues I have been discouraging my patients with Cardiac and Renal issues to use this medicines, I have observed that patients already with a cardiac issue either tend get worse or would show no progress, however I have always preferred a combination of Alprozolam and Melatonin where in these patients are found to get a better sleep, their anxiety is taken care as well as the sleep cycle synchronised because of Melatonin.

Definitely so however a combination of Alprozolam with Metalonin can always be a better choice since it take care of anxiety, provided a good sleep as well synchronises the sleep cycle
I don't know about ambien, but I do take valium once in a while when I am stressed out and unable to go to sleep after all else fail. But I do alternately take melotonin and valerian root supplements once in awhile and sometimes when it fails I have to take valium, because sleepless night tends to raise blood pressure to a dangerous level. So I don't really know which is lesser of the two evils. When you are really stressed out even meditation does not help. Perhaps a loving and understanding partner might come in handy.
I have taken anbien for about 9 years due to severe insomnia and this report is very upsetting to me !Why don’t our Drs. offer us this information or another option…..surely they know about all the horrible side effects. Scarey stuff. Thanks for the report and I will heed this information.
This is really scarey as i have been on ambien 30 pills every month for over 9 years! Why dont our drs tell us about these dangers…surely they know about them. I will not take any more of this dangerous drug! Thanks for this very important information.
Prescribed meds is the 4th leading cause of death in this country. Doctors do mot tell us about side effects for several reasons. 1. They don’t know about them because they don’t keep u with research. 2. They know, but think the benefits outweigh the harm (not so!). 3. Many don’t care. The drugs keep the patients coming back ($$). 4. Their own investments in drug companies soar (more $$). We have to take resondinility for our own health. It’s easy to research every drug a doctor recommends with our smart hones or computers it’s also not hard to find natural herbal remedies to use instead. Even doctors’ diagnoses is wrong 1/3 of the time. Take time to learn about your own body. Talk with natural practitioners.
