Researchers Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine have discovered a simple, free, effortless and pleasant habit that does more at reducing your risk of heart attack than most diets, workouts or lifestyle changes like stopping bad habits such as smoking.
In fact, while the study participants reduced their risk of 30% on average, those who were at the greatest risk of cardiovascular disease reduced their risk a whooping 50% by including this cheerful habit into their lives.
[adrotate group=”5″]Having a cheerful, happy attitude might make the difference in whether or not you will develop heart disease, says research out of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Studying 1500 healthy individuals, researchers discovered that people who reported themselves as having a happy, positive attitude and as being cheerful and energetic were at an overall 30% reduced risk of having a heart attack.
While the study didn’t directly make conclusions as to why unhappy, angry, or irritable people were at higher risk of developing high blood pressure and the heart disease risks that go with it, many other studies have proven that negative stress is a direct cause for high blood pressure worldwide.
Whether it is from biological, sensory or emotional stress, the unmanaged anxiety the body feels takes a toll on more than mood and personality. Long-term, hypertension leads to stroke, heart disease, and heart attack.
