When tackling high blood pressure, most people are forced to either take dangerous medications, follow strict, restraining diets or work up a sweat for hours on end.
A new study, however, reveals an amazingly simple approach that drops the blood pressure down almost effortlessly. You are already doing this every minute, now you just have to do it a little bit more and little bit better.
… and it has nothing to do with diet or workout!
Becoming anxious over the fact that you have high blood pressure is pretty common, but this increase in stress could actually end up increasing your blood pressure level too.
So it might be time to take a step back and simply breathe a bit. Yes, that’s right; breathing can help you combat the problem that’s got you all out of breath in the first place.
According to recent studies, deep breathing reduces blood pressure drastically.
Dr. David Anderson, a researcher within the National Institute of Aging, is one of the many professionals who take the issue of deep breathing very seriously. To prove his point, he put a very specific gadget to use to prove the connection between deep breathing and the breaking down of salt deposits within the body.
The device works to train people struggling with hypertension to breathe slowly.
Dr. Anderson discovered that when you focus on your breathing, you are not only giving your mind the chance to release unnecessary stressors, which increase your blood pressure, but you also break down the salt content within your body, thus decreasing the closely associated high blood pressure levels.
Those who don’t exercise very often can end up with a lot of salt buildup within their kidneys; by breathing deeply, this buildup is broken down.
It is well known fact that a high salt content diet, a sedentary lifestyle and weight issues all contribute to high blood pressure, which is why deep breathing and the breakdown of the salt content within the body are such outstanding methods for combating this problem.
According to another study conducted by InterCure Inc., individuals who practiced slow breathing for about 15 minutes per day were able to reduce their blood pressure by up to 15 points.
But you don’t have to buy an expensive device to train yourself to breathe slowly. Our simple blood pressure exercises are based on many of the principles listed in this study. Plus, they are even more powerful than the breathing techniques.
Lowering blood pressure is not the only benefit from practicing deep-breathing exercises. We’ve used these techniques to create an extremely powerful Weight Loss Breeze Program, techniques to overcome fibromyalgia and an approach to overcome chronic migraine and headaches.
I can vouch for this simple method of lowering ones blood pressure, several years ago when I asked my Chinese Tia Chi Master about relaxation and the effects of mind control he just said “MEDITATION”.
So I joined another School Of His where I learned to do “Meditation”.
At first it wasn’t easy, mainly because I found it a little difficult to turn off my brain which in most cases for most people including me, is very much like a busy telephone exchange, with a constant bombardment of calls (thoughts) incoming.
But with a little perseverance I was able to do what My Teacher instructed and turn off my brain or mind, however it took several months of dedication and discipline and that is the important ingredient “Dedication & Discipline” to the task ahead.
The effort of not thinking, coupled with of course deep breathing being the master key to relaxation, one can achieve that Beautiful Peaceful State Of Relaxation.
One word of caution though, once one has mastered this state of relaxation it becomes very addictive and is almost so good that instead of just a half hour of meditation it can and often does slip or glide into an hour, sometimes longer, depending on what else one has to do that day……?
To overcome the problem of time management, I usually wake an hour before I need to and while my mind is fresh for another day, I sit on the floor, on a cushion with my back to the wall and commence “Deep Controlled Slow Breathing” which aids in stilling the mind, then just like a magic charm I’m into the state of relaxation……….?
The other trick is “NO MOBILE PHONES, NO TELEVISION, NO ELECTRIC CLOCK, NO COMPUTER AND ABOVE ALL ELSE NO OTHER DISTURBANCE OF ANY KIND” one has to make sure you will not be disturbed while you’re doing the meditation, or it is a waste of time starting in the first place.
It is a “My Time” of day and that is also a key to this discipline.
Deep breathing is especially effective for me when the exhalation is much slower than the inhalation. Unfortunately, I don't think the reduction lasts very long.
Thank you for these simple approaches. very helpful advise.
I do the breathing exercise twice daily but have been unable to master the meditation even for one minute. I simply cannot shut my mind down for more than 10-20 seconds . I don’t know if the breathing exercise has helped lower blood pressure or not because my presure goes up when I put the cuff on.It’s a mental thing and I can’t stand to look at the gadget at home. However my cholesterol is 149 and my heart rate is 60 bpm and I feel great for 72 years old and do a lot of walking.
Jerry,
I’m with you. My mind is a monkey cage full of noise and acrobatics.
Even the sight of the blood pressure machine raises my blood pressure and I’ve proved it. With five consecutive readings at home – bang, bang, bang one after the other – my blood pressure dropped 20 points in two minutes. Now that’s medically ridiculous, isn’t it.
Ha! Antonia you are so right. I checked my BP yesterday morning. Five readings in five minutes lowered by 20 points. Had my exam at my cardiologist in the afternoon. After a twenty minute wait they checked my BP and it was the lowest reading of the day. My numbers have been going down for a month. Doc said not to worry, I was OK. No longer HighBP.
it won't hurt to try.
