New research out of the University of Mississippi shows promise for those wanting to increase natural antioxidant consumption but are limited by calories.

The news is particularly exciting for diabetics who want the benefits of blueberry antioxidants but can’t risk over-doing it with fructose consumption. But it will work for everyone.

A potential new supplement that has entered the clinical trial phase has shown some remarkable results with people who are hypertensive, or have high blood pressure.

The new compound is a synthetic form of the same polyphenol antioxidant found in blueberries, called pterostilbene. Scientists have long known that blueberries are an incredible source of this highly powerful antioxidant, having seen its blood pressure-normalizing effectiveness for many years.

But to get enough of the polyphenol one would need to see the benefits, eating that many blueberries can be very expensive. It is also not recommended for diabetics or those with Metabolic Syndrome.

The new supplement is a bioidentical version of pterostilbene, meaning it is the same, chemically, in every way.

While not yet available for consumers, the makers of the supplement have been releasing their study results to a variety of symposium venues, including those for the American Heart Association.
