With the high success rate many natural methods deliver (most often much higher than traditional medications without any side effects) for chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, arthritis and more, we at Blue Heron Health News repeatedly get the same questions:

If it’s so effective, why doesn’t my doctor know about this?

Many natural health researchers paint doctors as evil arms of the pharmaceutical companies. Like in Chaucer…The Doctor and the Apothecary. One does the other’s bidding so they both make a quick buck.

Although definitely there are quite a few doctors who will sell their soul to ‘Big Pharma,” I believe generally doctors want to help their patients. There is just one problem that prevents them from doing that.

In today’s feature article I’ll explain this issue that’s blocking you from being healthier and doctors from doing their job. No doubt this will raise some good comments at the end of the article so make sure you let your voice be heard.

Getting into medical school is quite a challenge. Getting through medical school is even tougher. Doctors have to study sometimes a dozen or more hours per day to get top scores. Only the best and the brightest (and once in a while those who have parents with influence) get through.

And this is more like a marathon than a sprint. A specialist will have spent more than a decade reaching his or her goals and tens of thousands of hours studying. The higher the education they seek, the better grades they have to get.

The problem with formal education like this is that it doesn’t leave much room for creativity. You better know the subject EXACTLY like the professor wants you to know it or you’ll get a dreaded B and not make it through to the next semester with your scholarships intact.

Throughout these thousands of hours of studying, medical students focuse on two methods and two methods only to cure disease:

1) Medications
2) Surgery

That’s it! That’s what being a medical doctor is.

And there is nothing wrong with this in a way. Medical doctors are not nutritionists, psychologists/therapists or fitness trainers. They are medical doctors that have been trained to treat diseases with medications and surgery.

The problems arise either when we try to make them into something they’re not (asking them about advice about fitness for example) or they try to approach subjects they have no educational background to advise on – such as nutrition.

An even bigger problem is that doctors have something of a monopoly on curing and preventing diseases. It would be like the shipping companies having the monopoly of transferring people across the Atlantic even if we also have planes.

This is, of course, due to the overwhelming power and resources the big pharmaceutical companies have. They want to sell their drugs and doctors are their dealers.

It is human nature to consider something you’ve worked hard on to be the best approach- maybe the only approach, especially if that lie has been repeated for years and years throughout medical school. Your normal doctor may therefore disregard anything that doesn’t fit into his/her approach of medication and surgery. It’s not that they’re being dishonest; he/she just doesn’t know any better.

It’s also human nature to seek information that supports our belief system. So your normal doctor seeking continuing education will not go to a natural health researcher for those CEUs, he/she will continue on the path he/she has been on for decades and learn more about drugs and surgery.

There is also a big liability issue involved.

Doctors have to follow specific procedures or they run the risk of being sued, thus causing their insurance to skyrocket. This is an especially big issue in the US. So if a doctor gets a patient in with high cholesterol and doesn’t prescribe Statins, but instead recommends lifestyle changes, the patient may sue him later for malpractice, even if he didn’t follow anything the doctor recommended.

Too frequently doctors are bound by both mental and legal obligations to do things that don’t work.

Conversely, natural health experts are usually more driven by the search for truth. They’re often generalists, whereas doctors are specialists. So we may study homeopathy, nutrition, stress and more and how these things all work together. We’re more focused on being healthy than treating diseases.

Your challenge (and all of ours) is to pick the right expert advice and fit the puzzle pieces all together to fit your specific situation. There are situations where seeking treatment from a traditional medical doctor is much more functional than a natural health-focused person. In other situations, natural health experts will do better.

For example, any type of extreme emergency medical care will almost always be the subject of a medical doctor; i.e., late stages of cancer, passing out from type 2 diabetes, having a heart attack, internal bleeding after a car accident. In these situations, you’d want to have someone call the ambulance because herbal remedies are not going to do the trick.

In the aftermath or as prevention from these kinds of health problems, that’s where natural health experts maybe better suited to help you.

For example, if you’ve been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, you may want to check out Jodi Knapp’s three step natural approach to completely reverse type 2 diabetes…

If you’re suffering arthritis there is little the traditional medical system knows how to do other than prescribing pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications. But Shelly Manning has helped hundreds of people to cure their arthritis in 21 days using only natural methods. Learn more about this arthritis approach here…

And of course you know that having long-lasting high blood pressure is a one-way ticket to stroke and heart attack. The traditional medical system’s only tool is medication that carries with it a long list of side effects. However, our three simple exercises have been proven to help almost everyone to bring their blood pressure below 120/80 as soon as today. Try these blood pressure exercises out for yourself here…

You can find more information on various diseases on the right hand side of this page as well as under the article tab at top. The rest of the Internet is also loaded with good information on natural approaches. If you have a good health food store in your neighborhood, the staff there will also usually be an abundance of support.
