New Guidelines on Type 2 Diabetes

It does seem that every time we turn around, nutritionists and doctors are reversing their positions on how to approach food if you have type 2 diabetes.

New recommendations, though, are making it more likely that sufferers can actually stick to a treatment plan and be successful for life.

In a joint effort between the American Diabetes Association and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, more of a focus on a patient-centered approach to the treatment of type 2 diabetes has a higher likelihood of success than the broad, sweeping one size fits all doctrine of the past.

Experts recommend that instead of trying to force a patient into a regimen based upon what works for other people, care providers must consider a blood sugar number as a goal that is based upon availability of resources, level of motivation, and especially co-existing complications.

Tailor-made approaches to treatment have shown to be the best approach, and care providers are encouraged to look at more than blood sugar numbers when planning the treatment for a diabetes patient.
