Eating a diet free of meat and all animal products helps diabetics lose weight and control their blood sugar, according to a review published in Nutrition Reviews.
In this review paper, scientists poured over 12 previously published studies investigating the influence of vegetarian and vegan diets on diabetes management.
They found that the studies overwhelmingly found that a vegan diet helped promote weight loss.
However, they note that the improved blood sugar that diabetic vegans experienced wasn’t solely due to weight reduction. They report that eating more dietary fiber, vegetable proteins and antioxidants also helped fight blood sugar.
But going totally vegan is not necessary to heal type 2 diabetes. Learn a more moderate method here…
This sounds better!! I was also advised to become a vegan by family & friends,to change my food habits. I have noticed my friends who use vegan diets have slimmed down & looking better in themselves.
Thank you Blueheron!!
Agree totally.
I eat more vegetables along with a protein shake and plenty of water every day, and now I can wear all of my old suits.
I am not diabetic.
I have not tried the protein shake but I increased veggies, small amount of fruit and grilled fish for my meats. I also started walking at lunch time (3 miles) everyday and free weights 3 days a week and it has made a tremendous difference in how I feel, look and sleep. I also eat my veggies half raw or totally raw sometimes. This is something I like now and do everyday…..80 oz of water also…
I eat lots of half cooked vegetables and drink plenty water. I feel good and smart day by day.
yes, I have experienced it but it is also difficult to follow it when you are on the road. It takes a lot of planning.
Thanks for the information. My doctor has me taking Actos 45mg for type II diabetes. Is this drug dangerous?
Iya, e ku ojo meta. Se alaafia ni e wa.
I came from a long line of diabetics…maybe we should rethink how we eat.
from a family who loves food and cooking…maybe… healthier food is the answer.
by changing me diet, thanks to Davy, I managed to lose all the weight I've gained in the past decade (used to be only 98lbs since my teenage days, bloated to a massive 135 lbs, plus pregnancy weight gain) by eating healthy…dropped red meat and enjoyed vegies, grains and fish instead. Tests indicated not even close to high normal blood sugar, as I was before, and back to 103 lbs and still losing.
I AM LIKE YOU MY FAMILY IS DIABETIC ON BOTH SIDES BACK TO THE GRANDPARENTS AND GREAT GRANDPARENTS SO I HAD TO START THINKING DIFFERENTLY. I TRIED FIT FOR LIFE AND LOVED IT BUT THE FRUIT I CAN DO WITHOUT AND BEEF…YOU LOSE FAST BUT FEEL AWESOME..BLOOD SUGAR FROM 300 TO 115 IN 3 DAYS…..
I KNOW THAT FEELING, IT IS LIKE WAKING UP TOTALLY…
@ Yvonne: Great…keep it up.
I haven't eaten neither flesh, nor fish nor fowl for over a year. I lost 46 pounds and now weigh what I did when I graduated high school in 1960.
One day I just got well, fed up! lol. I changed instantly once I made the choice to do so. Really glad I did and I recommend a break from meats at least for awhile. My LDL number nose dived. My body fat index did too.
I feel so much better.
