They discovered that a special form of cardio –known as interval—reduced blood sugar better than traditional steady-state cardio.
In this study of 8 type 2 diabetics, the subjects were asked to perform thrice-weekly interval training sessions on an exercise bike, each lasting approximately 30-minutes each.
The average blood sugar levels in the blood decreased by an average of more than 5% in just 2-weeks. Also, other markers of metabolic health improved in the interval trainers.
More simple ways to keep type 2 diabetes at bay…
Not all exercise is equal when it comes to diabetes.
cool
Great article – & I fully support the high intensity approach to training – not only as you have stated it has more beneficial health benefits than traditional steady state type training – it is a much shorter routine & I personally am more committed to being able to complete the workout vs thinking I need to spend over an hour working out
Thank You
My doctor told me I have pre-diabetes. I asked if I could stop it and he said no just keep it at bay a little while. I want to do what I can. I feel really bad and want to make steps to improve my health. I need to lose weight and learn what to eat. He won’t tell me what to do only get used to it.
Peggy, you should go back to your doctor and give him a right dressing down, for the comments he made. You can stop the path to becoming diabetic. Ask to see a dietician, and go on line where there is lots of advice towards this end. Do not accept what this doctor says. Look after your own health, and don’t be drawn into the mind feast of, there is no cure. Best of luck and go for it
Peggy, the answer from you doctor is grounds for malpractice… go to my blog at beltsocalelevatedphotography.com. I wrote several articles on cardio based exercising that will almost guarantee you will lose weight. It will likely reverse the pre-diabetes and reduce high BP which was my original reason for getting started with my own program. Think whole foods, lots of water and as much sleep as you can get each night.
Peggy your docter needs you to stay sick so that he can get rich out of you. I am helping a lot of people with diabetes. You can reverse it and enjoy a normal life with a proper lifestyle and diet. Go green and exercise plus water = sound body and mind.
Diabetes needs exercise.
Weight loss is DIET based. NOT exercise based. Eat less, eat better and include exercise, NOT workouts, and you will lose weight. You will also cause your body to reject many bad things that ‘doctors’ make a living at. Diseases of all sorts that cannot survive a good diet and proper exercise. Ditch all the gym machinery. It’s useless for the most part. NEVER use treadmills. The term ‘Treadmill’ alone should scare you to no end! A really good workout ought to last no more than twenty minutes…total for the day. Stay OUT of the kitchen! Most will find that the hunger they sense is really THIRST. Water at room temperature is best. Forget the fancy bottles and such. A Brita filter is all you really need. More than that and you ought to call the EPA! Lots more on this subject but….

interesting-always knew exercise got blood sugars down but will keep doing bike exercise in classes.
my girl friend has to do one hour walk every single day to stay off medication, and it works!
Although I do not have diabetes, I switched to HIT a few years ago. I find it more challenging than traditional cardio, and it has also put a lot more muscle on my body. The only negative is I was able to stay very trim with long slow cardio, while eating more. I now find I have to watch amount, and type of food more carefully.
