Researchers from Texas Tech discovered that regular yoga sessions help diabetics manage their body weight and blood sugar levels. In this study of 120 type 2 diabetic adults, it was found that yoga significantly reduced the subject’s BMI and average blood sugar levels over the 3-month course of the study.

The study authors note that yoga also reduced blood markers of oxidative stress by more than 20%. High levels of oxidative stress are closely linked to insulin resistance. Yoga is well-known for its ability to combat stress but this study reveals for the first time that the reduction in stress translates to better blood sugar control for diabetics.
