Although binge drinking and full-blown alcoholism are tied to high cholesterol and heart attack risk, a new study published in the medical journal “Atherosclerosis” found this week that a glass or two per night may actually drop cholesterol levels.

In a study of mice, scientists tested the effects of two drinking patterns, binge drinking or a daily beer, on cholesterol levels.

Mice that moderately imbibed had significantly lower cholesterol levels than those that drank heavily. The scientists conclude that drinking a glass or two of alcohol per day may actually be beneficial to those with high cholesterol.
