Getting enough magnesium can reduce blood sugar and even help prevent type 2 diabetes, the results from the journal “Clinical Nutrition” has found. The study investigated magnesium levels and blood sugar control in a group of people with type 2 diabetes.

They found that magnesium levels were low in more than 3 out of 4 subjects. Importantly, those with the lowest levels of magnesium also had the worst blood sugar control. The study authors note that diabetes increases the loss of magnesium –a mineral important for normal insulin functioning in the body.
