One of the first things most people hear after being diagnosed with high blood pressure is, “watch how much salt that you eat.” However, according to new a paper published in the “Journal of the American Medical Association” salt may have less to do with high blood pressure than many people think.

The paper, published by cardiologist Dr. Stolarz-Skrzypek, MD, notes that several studies have found no connection between levels of salt in the body and hypertension risk. The paper warns that one large-scale study involving over 8,000 subjects found that low salt consumption was associated with a heightened risk of premature death.
